November 12, 2007 - The Varsity Blues women’s water polo capped off their fantastic regular season with two wins and a loss this past weekend to finish second in the OUA with a record of 6-2, just one point behind Carleton University.
Blues rookie sensation Nicole Brown scored 13 goals in three games to lead the Blues. The league’s leading scorer (34) led the Blues in wins over McMaster (8-6) on Friday night and Queen’s (11-6) on Saturday, scoring five goals in each game and added three more on in a Blues loss to the division-leading Ravens, 11-8, Sunday afternoon.
2006 OUA all-star Laura Shaw had a solid weekend as well, scoring a total of seven goals in three games, while Regan Reid added three. Brittany Sinclair contributed two goals and Denis Figueiredo and Loucia Beveridge tallied one apiece.
Brown and Shaw have been the catalyst to a Varsity Blues squad that did not win a single game last season.
The Blues will now ready themselves for the OUA water polo championships, November 24-25. The two-day event will take place at the University of Toronto’s Varsity Pool.
